GloBeat Ep 015 Film Music Revisited

LAST TANGO IN PARIS - American Poster 5This program is focused on revisiting world  film music composers.  Some  are old like  the German Friederich Hollander,   and the French Francis Lai.   Some  are not well known in US like the great  Japanese  Shigeru Umebayashi  and the prolific  Indian composer A. R. Rahman.  Included  in this compilation are music extracts from “The Mission”  by the talented Italian composer  Ennio Morricone and “Last Tango in Paris” by the Argentinian Jazz composer  Gato Barbieri.

One new short story published on Amazon Kindle

This week one of my favorite shorts stories  was published on Amazon Kindle.

The story of  “A Shade of Blue” is about a man’s unrealized love for a woman he met only twice in his life,  and the absurdity of self-righteousness.

I want to take this opportunity to apologize to those of you who were brave enough to purchase some of my previous short stories.

I didn’t realize until late the format of the earlier versions was less than optimal ; I have since corrected it. While I cannot amend the quality of my writing, I will be more than happy to replace the defective version which you previously purchased.

GloBeat Ep 014 Latin Music Rediscovered

This program is a compilation of  old and new Latin American music.  We  rediscover the great voices of Mercedes Sosa, Lila Downs,  and Soledad Bravo among others;  singing Boleros,  Milongas  and  other genres of music.  Included  in this compilation are some songs from la Nueva Cancion, the music movement which played a powerful role in the social  upheavals during  the 70’s and 80’s in Latin America and even Spain and Portugal.

I dedicate this program to the memory of my brother Carlos and his widow Eva.   I encountered many of these  voices for the first time at their home,  as they hosted memorable evenings  with great music,  good food,  bad wine and wonderful friends and colleagues from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV).   It was during those heady days of the 60’s and 70’s, when Caracas was a vibrant capital full of hope,  and Venezuela was a nation of freedom and democracy within a Latin America,  when many other sister nations were being smothered  by brutal dictatorships.  So , Carlos and Eva, gracias! Thank you for hosting me,  feeding me and in particular for helping me discover this rich, varied and extraordinary music of Latin America.

GloBeat Ep013 Supports Brussels, Classic music deconstructed.

In solidarity with the people of Brussels and to honor the victims and survivors of the terror attacks of Tuesday March 22, 2016, we dedicate this GloBeat episode to them!

The program is an eclectic compilation of  classic music deconstructed and in some cases  rearranged  by artists from different nations and centuries.  We start by listening to “Le Secret”  by the   Belgian composer  Danielle Baas.   The program also includes  selections  from  Mile Davis,  Jane Birkin, Angelique Kidjo and the composer Henry Purcell .
