GloBeat Tribute to Leonard Cohen

It is a challenge to pay homage to a great poet like Leonard Cohen, in a 52 minutes radio program.  Perhaps some may be  disappointed for not having included  a favorite.  More so because so many artists have used his material, and many of his songs.   After some consideration the decision was made to just focus on Leonard Cohen as a performer as well as writer and composers, and not the interpretations  of his music by others. With one exception, the inclusion of “Blue Alert”  a song composed by Leonard but interpreted by Ajani Thomas, when you listen to it you will understand and  forgive me.

GloBeat Music of Turkey

While visiting the port of Kusadasi in Turkey this summer I discovered a great bookstore at the port, called D & R.

The staff was most helpful in helping me discover some new voices  in the contemporary Turkish music scene,  as well as  helping me rediscover some old classics like Sezen Aksu.  They opened new CD’s,  played some tracks for me,  made some great suggestions and helped me in a voyage of musical discovery. It was a very satisfying experience, and I am most grateful to them.

One of the discoveries, was the voice of a lovely Turkish actress,  Korel Berguzar,  in a wonderful rendition of a Jazz piece: “Gullerim Soldu” from her new album “Aykut Gurel Presents Korel Berguzar.  Another wonderful discovery was the group “Incesaz”, which transform traditional Turkish folk music,  from their new album “Incesaz8 with Gecsin Gunler”, we play “Senden Iz Yok”

One member of the staff, Kamil Sarhanli, is a recently published writer, he is holding his new book “Ask Ve Olum”
